Psychiatry has evolved into very high technological treatments, as well as new medication management. Unfortunately, our profession was ruined by Hollywood during a movement to de-institutionalize mental illness, sending people into the streets needing help. the majority of the homeless are mentally ill and with drug addiction, often landing in jail as a place to live. The movie one flew over the cuckoo nest was such a campaign that we still try to apologize for our profession always trying to remove the stigma of helping patients often seeking help in primary care settings, and not in psychiatry.

The fentanyl crisis is killing America and it’s not stopping. The treatment is easy and reversible but the stigma and going to a psychiatrist to interfere and patients getting help and doctors referring to psychiatrist. https://lnkd.in/edJ_rFD6

We are approaching 100,000 deaths a year and it’s climbing it is getting close to the top 10 mortalities in this country. Now the use of a new type of fentanyl that is used for an elephant tranquilizer is even more potent, and now available in the streets.
